Favourite quote #5 – “She wasn’t doing a thing …”
“She wasn’t doing a thing that I could see, except standing there, leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together.”
Is that not just perfect? It is such a simple statement, and yet beautifully suggests a whole story. If I’d never come across anything else Salinger had written, that would be enough to let me know his works need to go on my reading bucket list.
Today’s blog is short and sweet, with not much from me. I’m simply going to leave you with 3 other quotes I like about men and women…
– Arrigo Boito (1842-1918) – Italian poet, writer and composer
“Avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys – to woo women – and, in that endeavour, laziness will not do.”
– From the movie Dead Poets’ Society (1989)
If a girl looks swell when she meets you, who gives a damn if she’s late? Nobody.
– JD Salinger (1919-2010) – American writer, best known for The Catcher in the Rye
